Popular TV actress Chitra found dead at hotel

Chennai:

Popular TV host-turned-actress K Chitra, who was playing one of lead roles in a serial called Pandian Stores aired on Star Vijay, was found dead at a resort in Sembarambakkam in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The 29-year-old actress who returned to her room around 1 am after the shoot was allegedly upset, according to her husband Hemnath, who was also staying with her in the Pleasant Days resort for the last few days.

"Chitra allegedly asked Hemnath to bring her bag from the car in the parking lot, when he returned, the door had been locked from inside.

He alerted the resort manager and they opened the room with the spare keys to find her hanging from the ceiling," said police, quoting Hemnath.

They informed the police control room and Nazarethpet police rushed to the spot. Chitra's body was retrieved and sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

A case has been registered and an inquiry has been ordered by the Revenue Divisional Officer, since she got married only two months ago.

Police said that Chitra got engaged to Hemnath last year and their marriage was registered recently in the presence of family members.

"They had planned to throw a wedding reception for relatives and friends in a few weeks," said police.

Chitra's father Kamaraj, a retired sub-inspector, visited the Nazarethpet police station. He told media persons that he did not suspect any foul play in the death and requested police personnel to investigate the incident in a fair manner.

While there is no suicide note found in the room, police have seized Chitra's phone to check if there is evidence to ascertain the cause of her death. Her co-stars may also be inquired as part of the investigation.

Chitra who began her career as a television anchor later started acting in serials. She became familiar with the audience after her Mullai character in the serial Pandian Stores became popular.

Several TV and movie artistes expressed shock over Chitra's death on social media platforms.

FAMILY BACKGROUND

Thangarasu Natarajan was born in Chinnappampatti, a village near Salem in Tamil Nadu. His father S. Thanagarasu, was a weaver working on a powerloom, and his motherShantha runs a fast food stall.Natarajan's family was not financially well-off. Natarajan is the eldest of five siblings, incluing three sisters, Natarjan was always worried about taking care of his family. But cricket has been a savior for the Natarajan family. In November 2020 his wife Pavithra Natarajan gave birth to a baby girl.

HOW NATARAJAN CAME TO CRICKET

Just like every other child, Natarajan took up tennis ball cricket as a hobby. However, one day a well-wisher from his village identified his skill as a bowler and asked Natarajan to try his hand at local competitive cricket. Motivated by the words then Natarajan relocate to Chennai and joined a cricket club in the city.
Natarajan first came into some limelight when he represented the team of BSNL in Tamil Nadu Cricket Association's fourth division league.

Natarajan then played 1st division cricket for Vijay Cricket Club for almost a year. Later, he moved to Jolly Rovers, a popular club that has fielded big names like Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay. Just after making his Ranji debut in 2015, Natarajan was reported for a suspect action. However, thanks to former Tamil Nadu Players, Sunil subramanian, D. Vasu and M. Venkataramana, for helping Natarajan to rectify his action, thus allowing him an early comeback.

Natarajan's first breakthrough came in 2016 when he represente Dindigul Dragons in the inaugural edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). A sheer case of 'from rags to riches', Natarajan entered the 'Crore Club' in 2007 when he was signed by the Kings XI Punjab or a whopping sum of INR 3 crore.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Natarajan made his first class debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy on 5 January 2015. He made his Twenty20 debut for Tamil Nau in the 2016-17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament on 29 January ullthurrai2017.In February 2017, Natarajan was bought by the Kings XI Punjab team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for rupees 3 crore. In January 2018, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyrabad in the 2018 IPL auction.

Natarajan mae his list A debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 20 September 2018. On 26 October 2020, Natarajan was named as one of four additional bowlers to travel with the India Cricket Team or their tour to Australia. On 9 November 2020, he was added to India's Twenty20 International squad, replacing Varun Chakravarthy who was rule out due to an injury. 

Ahead of the first One Day International (ODI) match, Natarajan was was added to Indias squad as a cover for Navdeep Saini, who was sufffering with a back spasm. Natarajan made his ODI debut for India against Australia on 2 December 2020, taking three wickets for thirty runs. On 30 December 2020, Natarajan was added to India's Test squad ahead of the third match against Australia.
